What I Know Now
Fitness and health are not the same thing.
Humans are not machines.
A healthy body starts at the cellular level.
Weight loss (and maintenance) is more about hormones than calories in/calories out.
Blood sugar imbalance and chronic stress are at the root of many health issues.
Your body needs fat—just the right kinds.
Movement is magic.
Most weight loss and medical research is based on men and rarely accounts for a woman’s menstrual cycle.
You can follow the science and question it at the same time.
“Fat-free” or “low-fat” often just means extra sugar.
What you feed yourself goes beyond food—your thoughts, relationships, environment, and media all shape your health.
Size ≠ health.
The female body is phenomenal.
There is no “perfect.” It’s all made up.
You don’t know what you don’t know—and that’s okay.
It’s never too late to learn.
Loving yourself is the ultimate power move.
I, like so many women, have been through the wringer of diet culture, perfectionism, and burnout.
For years, I overworked and undernourished myself, living by the motto: “Head down, get it done.” It worked—at least in my career—but no matter how much success I had, something always felt missing.
I wish I could say I figured it out quickly, but that would be a big, fat lie. But, that’s life. And quite frankly, I am and forever will be “figuring it out.” We aren’t given instruction books for this crazy, beautiful, and challenging thing called life. And that’s ok. Because it was through the light and the dark of it all, where I was able to fill what I was missing:
A deeper understanding of my body. I spent so long thinking I was doing something “wrong,” but the truth was, I just didn’t know how my body worked or what it needed. You can’t fix what you don’t understand.
Self-love and appreciation for me. Perfectionism is a ruthless beast. I was so focused on being “enough” for partners, family, my job, friends—everything outside of myself—that I never stopped to ask what I actually wanted and needed. And ironically, the more successful I became, the worse I felt.
A connection to something greater. Call it God, Spirit, the Universe—whatever resonates. That connection changed everything.
What Helped Me
Dance brought me back into my body and gave me permission to express myself fully.
A 2016 presentation by Dr. Mark Hyman changed the way I saw food, the industry, and health itself.
Slowing down created space for me to figure out what I actually desire, set boundaries, and let go of what doesn’t serve me.
Learning how the body actually works—through books, workshops, podcasts, and certifications.
Daily rituals: Meditation, mindfulness, yoga, movement, belly laughs, deep friendships, the occasional well-made cocktail, incredible food, family, travel, gardening, DIY projects, and gratitude—for all of it, the good, the bad, and everything in between.
This is why I do what I do.
Because I, you, and women deserve to understand their bodies, break free from the old paradigm of diet culture, and create a life that feels really good—without the overwhelm, guilt, or endless “shoulds.”
